Hello Clogger friends.

I’m Donna Pelletier Puckett and I danced with the Apple Chill Cloggers from 1976 until 1980. I learned to clog while attending Wayne Community College which is where I received my Associates degree to practice Dental Hygiene. The college was offering clogging classes off campus, and Carolyn and Randy Parrish were the instructors. Their dancing style was influenced by Rodney Sutton who is a Green Grass Clogger.

I moved to Raleigh in 1976, where I worked for Dr Roy Earp. I met Doug Peacock who lived in Raleigh. Doug played the banjo and soon discovered my interest in clogging. He told me about the clogging workshops taught by the Apple Chill Cloggers from Chapel Hill. So I went to the “tin Can” and checked it out pretty quickly. I was excited to learn that they were looking for more dancers to add to the team. So, as luck  would have it, my timing was good. I went to the try-outs and became an Apple Chill Clogger. My dancing days were truly some of the happiest of my life. It didn’t matter how big or small the job or whether it was a private party or huge festival…I just loved dancing! My most incredible memories were the University of Chicago Folk Festival,Winnipeg Festival in Canada, Philadelphia Folk Festival, and the trip to the British Isles. The Cobh International Folk Festival was really special…we danced during the parade and I carried the American flag. Getting backstage passes at the festivals was a treat. Being around such great performers and listening to all the incredible music was really something!

In 1980 I met and married Sherwood Shivar who was from LaGrange. I moved back to my hometown. Our son, Logan, was born in 1985. When was about six months old I was asked to help the Cloggers out at a festival at Owen Sound in Canada. I made a few trips to Chapel Hill to brush up on the routines. So this was my last performance with the cloggers.

Unfortunately, my marriage to Sherwood ended in divorce in December of 1992. I have remarried to Stan Puckett and that was in February of 1998. We live in LaGrange as Stan is also from my hometown. Stan is retired from Dupont. Logan is 20 years old now and is attending Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, North Carolina. I’m still working full-time as a Dental Hygienist. Dr. Wes Perry is my employer in Kinston.

Thanks again all you current Apple Chill Cloggers for your planning and hospitality at the 30 year reunion. It was neat to see the home movies that Betsy Holbrook brought to the party. I got to go back to the past again! I now have an email address.
