About

The Apple Chill Cloggers from Chapel Hill, North Carolina are a high-kicking, foot-stomping folk dance troupe that preserves, performs, and promotes the music and dance from the Southern Appalachian Mountains.

Our dance shoes have metal taps to accentuate the percussive, syncopated rhythm. We perform to American “old time”  string band music that consists of a fiddle, banjo, guitar, and an upright bass that makes people want to clap along and get up and dance with us!

We are members in good standing with CIOFF-USA, a member of the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts that collaborates with UNESCO to promote intangible cultural heritage. We love to  perform at international dance festivals!
We are a traditional team, but we also represent elaborated expression through elements of authentic, regional “flat-footing” steps and traditional square dance formations in combination with lively modern step combinations and routines.
